Conditions

Hand & wrist pain

You use your hands all day — at work, during sports, and in daily activities. Complaints in your hand or wrist therefore have a direct impact on your life. At Fysio Willemspark in Amsterdam, we offer specialized treatment so you can function pain-free again.

Do you recognize this?

  • Stiff fingers, especially in the morning after waking up

  • Pain when gripping, squeezing, or turning

  • Loss of strength in the hand — dropping things

  • Tingling or numbness in fingers

  • A finger that locks and then suddenly snaps free (trigger finger)

  • Pain in the wrist during movement or loading

Possible causes

Hand complaints can have various causes, from nerve entrapment to wear. Careful diagnostics is essential.

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

The median nerve becomes trapped in the carpal tunnel of the wrist. This causes tingling, numbness, and loss of strength in the thumb, index, and middle finger, especially at night.

  • De Quervain's (tendonitis)

Inflammation of the tendon sheaths on the thumb side of the wrist. It causes sharp pain when gripping, turning, or moving the thumb. Common in new parents.

  • Trigger finger

The tendon sheath of a finger becomes thickened, preventing the tendon from gliding smoothly. The finger locks in a bent position and then snaps free with a click.

  • Osteoarthritis in hand and fingers

Wear of the cartilage in the hand and finger joints. This causes stiffness, swelling, and pain, especially at the start of movement. More common at older ages.

  • Ganglion cyst

A fluid-filled swelling near a joint or tendon sheath, usually on the back of the hand or wrist. It can put pressure on surrounding structures and cause pain.

  • Overuse

Repeated fine motor movements at work or hobbies can overload the muscles, tendons, and joints of the hand. This leads to pain, fatigue, and reduced function.

Our approach

  1. 1

    Testing

Through various tests, we map out the reason you are experiencing hand or wrist complaints. Often there is more than one cause.

  2. 2

    Solving

Based on the test results, we identify where the solution lies. By treating your body, you immediately feel an improvement in your hand.

  3. 3

    Follow-up

By performing the same tests again, you immediately experience that your grip is stronger and movement is smoother again.
