Conditions
Knee pain
The knee is a complex joint that is intensively loaded daily. Whether you are dealing with a sports injury, wear, or unexplained knee pain — at Fysio Willemspark in Amsterdam we thoroughly investigate the cause and create an effective treatment plan.
Do you recognize this?
Pain at the front or side of the knee
Swelling in or around the knee joint
An insecure or unstable feeling in the knee
A locking feeling — the knee cannot fully extend
Pain when climbing stairs, squatting, or kneeling
Cracking or popping sounds during movement
Possible causes
Knee complaints can range from overuse to structural injury. A precise examination is essential for the right treatment.
Patellofemoral pain (runner's knee)
Pain around or behind the kneecap, common in runners and cyclists. The kneecap does not track properly in the groove of the thighbone, often due to muscle weakness or an incorrect running pattern.
Meniscus injury
The meniscus is a cartilage disc that acts as a shock absorber in the knee. A tear can occur from a twisting movement or wear and causes pain, swelling, and sometimes a locking sensation.
Cruciate ligament injury (ACL/PCL)
The anterior (ACL) or posterior (PCL) cruciate ligament can tear during a sudden twisting or stopping movement. This causes immediate severe pain, swelling, and instability of the knee.
Knee osteoarthritis
Wear of the cartilage in the knee joint. This causes stiffness after rest, pain under load, and gradually decreasing function. More common at older ages or after previous knee injury.
Jumper's knee (patellar tendinopathy)
Overloading of the patellar tendon just below the kneecap, common in athletes who jump a lot (volleyball, basketball). It causes a sharp pain when pushing off and landing.
IT band syndrome (iliotibial band)
The IT band is a thick fibrous band on the outside of the thigh. When overloaded, it can cause irritation on the outside of the knee, especially in runners.
Our approach
- 1
Testing
Through various tests, we map out the reason you are experiencing knee complaints. Often there is more than one cause.
- 2
Solving
Based on the test results, we identify where the solution lies. By treating your body, you immediately feel an improvement in your knee.
- 3
Follow-up
By performing the same tests again, you immediately experience that your knee feels more stable and movement is less painful.
