Conditions
Shoulder pain
The shoulder is the most mobile joint in your body and therefore also vulnerable to complaints. From a painful impingement to a frozen shoulder — at Fysio Willemspark in Amsterdam we investigate the cause and create a targeted treatment plan.
Do you recognize this?
Pain when moving or lifting your arm
Nighttime shoulder pain that keeps you awake
Limited reach — you can no longer reach behind your back
Cracking or popping sounds in your shoulder
Loss of strength when lifting or carrying
Stiffness that keeps getting worse (frozen shoulder)
Possible causes
Shoulder complaints can have many causes. A precise examination is the basis for targeted treatment.
Impingement syndrome
With impingement, tendons and bursae become trapped in the shoulder when lifting the arm. This causes a sharp pain, especially with movements above shoulder height.
Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)
The shoulder capsule becomes increasingly stiff and thick, gradually reducing range of motion. This can last months to years without adequate treatment.
Rotator cuff injury
The muscles and tendons around the shoulder joint (the rotator cuff) can tear or become inflamed from overuse, a fall, or wear. This causes pain and weakness.
Shoulder instability
After a (sub)luxation or due to weak stabilizing muscles, the shoulder can feel unstable. You experience an unsafe feeling during certain movements.
Bursitis
An inflamed bursa in the shoulder causes local swelling, warmth, and pain. This is especially noticeable when lying on the shoulder and during sideways movements.
Osteoarthritis
Cartilage wear in the shoulder joint occurs at older ages or after repeated intensive use. It causes stiffness, pain, and a grinding sensation.
Our approach
- 1
Testing
Through various tests, we map out the reason you are experiencing shoulder complaints. Often there is more than one cause.
- 2
Solving
Based on the test results, we identify where the solution lies. By treating your body, you immediately feel an improvement in your shoulder.
- 3
Follow-up
By performing the same tests again, you immediately experience that you have more strength and range of motion in your shoulder.
